Retirement Living

At Southern Cross Care Broken Hill Ltd we aim to provide our Residents with the best care and service possible.

In the late 1970’s a vision of the Knights Of the Southern Cross,  to provide Broken Hill with retirement living came to fruition with the building of 40 Independent Living Units at 2 Blende Street, Broken Hill.  The Village was named after the Late Cornelious (Con) Crowley who was Broken Hill’s Town Clerk from 1936 – 1961.
From these humble beginnings Southern Cross Care has continued to provide accommodation to the frail and aged citizens of Broken Hill and the Far West of New South Wales.

The newest addition to Broken Hill retirement living the ‘War Vets Retirement Living – We’re here for the Battler project’ came about when the Board of Southern Cross Care identified a need for ‘affordable’ independent living for retirees, those true blue ‘Battlers” who have worked hard and toughed it out, and who in their retirement years want to live an independent lifestyle without the worry of home maintenance and garden upkeep.

2011 will see the opening of 26 independent living units at the War Vets Retirement Living site,  169 Thomas Street, Broken Hill.
There are future plans on the drawing board to ensure that seniors seeking a more independent lifestyle can continue to look to Southern Cross Care for a happy, secure, worry free retirement.
